It seems like she’s being targeted because she’s always at practice and always willing to learn i really don’t care if she starts but at least be a sub and this was a team of 11. @GetThePancake, I've enjoy this coaching tip. Makes sense to use defense vs offense as this allows coaches to provide feedback. I've learned to run what is called Repeat Run and Combo + for my hitting lines. Regular hitting lines without defense are inefficient in my opinion and experience. I tend to train as I want the team to play during competition as much as possible. The transfer from drill to match play is more efficient it seems. Repeat Run is where LPin runs two attacks consecutively and then middle or RS runs a single attack. Then Middle runs two consecutive attacks then either Pin runs last attack. RS runs two consecutive attacks then a middle executes the last attack. Combo + is a combination play with LPin & Middle then RS single attack. Then an out of system pass set to either Pin. Three attacks altogether. It can be executed with RS and Middle or LPin on the RS with the Middle. The last attack is to the left front from out of system pass set. I use both drills during match warmups. Since club has 4 minutes during warmups, it's 90 sec for each. Unless I don't want to serve, then it's 2mins for each. For HS, coaches can work out the timing, since there is more time, if they want to use both drills. Here is a video of Combo + as done by Mike Lingenfelter, Munciana Samurai Head Coach and Co-Director Asics Munciana Volleyball Club: ruclips.net/video/7FSKtLLXbIM/видео.html (Copy and paste into browser, if link not working) I initiate the drills with attackers at the net their blocking position and transition to 'touch point'. My Libero & DS' pass to setter a tossed ball from across the net for both Repeat Run and Combo +. (Short staff, have athletes toss, allowing coaches to coach) Can be executed with attacking LPin, Middle or RS passing one of the tossed balls. Drills can be run with Pins switching positions. Front row serve receive positions can also be run. Coaches have a variety of how to initiate the drills. One thing I have found out, initially run the drills slowly for the athletes to understand HOW to execute the drills. (Using Mike Lingenfelter's video helps as well.) Once understood and run successfully, time each drill separately. This gives the coach an idea how much time to allot for each drill during match warmups. The number of successful attacks is only used during practice. For my teams, ZONE 6 is considered out of bounds and an unsuccessful attack. Attackers shag the number of balls they attacked over the net after attacking, paying attention to balls are being attacked. Or a group of athletes run the drill for time or successful attacks then rotate attackers & setters. Athletes not in the drill is shagging. We specifically have the next attackers on the opposite side of the net to prevent balls from rolling under the net. The next three attackers transition under the net after the last attack and transition to their 'touch point' to start their approach. Never slowing down the tosses to the Libero/DS and or attackers. Feel free to reach out if any questions or concerns.

You've done a great job in setting standards that should be followed. I have shared this video with my assistant for club ball next season. With this said, I really like how you break things down. Especially with, cooperation, attendance, and attitudes. KUDOs. Now this video is five years old, can we look to update the video with additional topics that causes coaches to determine playing time? One thing I would add is what I call intangibles. First in, last out. Saying hello to the coach(s). Saying thank you to the coach(s). Keeping eye contact with the coach during feedback or instructions. My intangibles really are having the coach notice the athlete. Outside of individual skills. Some calls it 'kissing butt', but I don't see it that way. If I don't notice an athlete, especially on large team like HS teams, then I will overlook the athlete(s) I don't notice. I tell all my athletes, "I play my favorites". I give them a list of what makes athletes my favorite. Those favorites have my intangibles. My favorite intangible, 'They bust it constantly-their physical effort is never in question.' This is who will always see the court on my teams as they will never give up on the team.

a few things not entirely right... Can a Libero serve? The libero can serve ONLY in the USA, everywhere else in the world, they absolutely can't. Even in the USA, events played under the FIVB rules (all the international events), the libero can't serve. (volleyball is however a sport in evolution, so this wouldn't surprise me if the rule change in FIVB to allow it in the future) 2:33 When your middle blockers rotate back row, he's serving... If you play under the FIVB rules, you can't have your libero serve the ball. Not only that, there's another issue. Usually when your middle blocker rotates to serve this also means your other middle blocker moves into position 4, this means your libero just exit the court cause he can't play in front. Now he has to wait at least 1 rally before going back to the court... Only 1 libero switch is allowed per rally. 2:56 libero switch has to be done in the "libero substitution zone", this is the sideline between the 3 meter line (10 foot) and the end line. Many unexperienced libero will enter the court by the end line (service line) which is also wrong. 3:10 This must actually happens before the referee authorize the serve. By your example, if the libero switch after the service hit, this is not a delay, this is a rotation fault, the rally stops and the opponent is awarded a point. What you probably meant to say is if the Libero switch between the Authorization to serve and the actual serve hit, this is where you may get a delay. Here is how it works: "A Libero replacement made after the whistle for service but before the service hit should not be rejected; however, at the end of the rally, the game captain must be informed that this is not a permitted procedure, and that repetition will be subject to delay sanctions." "Subsequent late Libero replacements shall result in the play being interrupted immediately and the imposition of a delay sanction. The team to serve next will be determined by the level of the delay sanction."
